Square Feet to Acres Calculator
Listings quote square feet, deeds quote acres, and the rest of the world uses hectares, so you end up converting more than you'd think. Enter an amount, pick the unit it's in, and get every other unit back at once. It works both ways: square feet to acres, acres to square feet, or anything to hectares.
How this is calculated
It all hinges on one number: 43,560 square feet to an acre. To go from square feet to acres, divide by 43,560. To go the other way, multiply. For metric, a hectare is 107,639 square feet, or about 2.47 acres. The tool converts your input to square feet first, then out to every unit, so the math stays consistent no matter which direction you're working.
A worked example
A 10,000 square-foot lot is 10,000 divided by 43,560, about 0.23 acres, roughly a quarter acre. Go the other way and a 1-acre parcel is exactly 43,560 square feet, or about 4,047 square meters. Type your number above and read off whichever unit you need.

It comes from old English land measure: an acre was one chain (66 feet) by one furlong (660 feet), which is 43,560 square feet. The odd number stuck.
