The results help you size an order and sanity-check your own numbers before you buy. They’re based on standard material densities, common bag and unit sizes, and typical waste allowances. Real materials vary. Density shifts with moisture and product, suppliers package and price differently, and ground is never perfectly flat.

Always verify before you order or build

Confirm the actual units your supplier sells in, and check quantities against their quote. For anything that carries load or has to meet code, a footing, a structural slab, a stair, a retaining wall, follow your engineer’s drawings and your local building department. Code limits cited on this site are common values, and your jurisdiction may differ.
